Abyssinian - Somali (Tawny, Cinnamon, Blue & Fawn)

Balinese (Seal, Blue, Cream Points - Seal & Blue Tortoiseshell Points)

IN THE BEGINNING .....

Situated on the Mid North Coast of NSW, Australia, PAJU specialises in Abyssinian, Somali and Balinese .. however we began with Abyssinians and Siamese in 1984, moving onto Somalis with the purchase of a tawny Somali kitten (Glordawn Wala) in 1987.  We now breed the beautiful Balinese - the longhaired cousin to the Siamese - and have found this breed to be almost the same as their shorthaired cousins, but with softer voices and of course, a longer coat.

We have been enjoying the companionship of our feline family since May, 1984, when we first joined the Australian Cat Fancy.  Our beginnings were with a delightful seal tortoiseshell point Siamese, Moovalong Tegan, and a tawny Abyssinian, Charneco Vivie Warren.  Vivie was a desexed pet - our introduction to the beautiful Abyssinian breed - and Tegan was our first show cat, who did very well in her show career, becoming a Grand Champion and giving us many beautiful Siamese kittens.  However, before them, we have had many cats in our lives (since childhood) and have always enjoyed feline company.

Gd Ch Moovalong Tegan (seal tortie point Siamese female cat) and Charneco Vivie Warren (tawny Abyssinian spay cat) - our first venture into the Australian Cat Fancy in the early 1980s.

Tegan and Vivie were joined by Yanquies Lucifera (tawny female Abyssinian) in late 1984, Moovalong Sisawat (seal point Siamese female) in late 1984/early 1985 and then later on, by two boys - Josinia Shahjar (tawny Abyssinian male) in mid 1985 and then Renroc Jasta Fella (in 1986).  These cats, with the exception of Vivie, were the founders of our cattery and all were much loved and cherished during their lives, never forgotten after their passing.

Our 'cat fancy" beginning was in Wellington, NSW in 1984, and then after moving to Gilgandra, NSW, we continued to show successfully both in NSW and interstate.   However, after moving back home in November, 1990, we continued to show.  We have also attended shows in Queensland, gaining Best in Show with one of our Abyssinian queens (Db Gd Ch Fretomau Yellarosa Texas) and now mainly show on the NSW Mid North Coast, where there is a flourishing show scene, which is wonderful to see.   Occasionally we travel to Sydney for shows as this is a treat, but the feline family seem to only prefer to travel "locally".

CURRENTLY .....

My husband and myself are accredited stewards with the NSW Cat Fanciers Association Inc and have been stewarding since 1986.  My husband is also a Companion Judge, licensed to judge all companion and household pet cats and kittens at shows, something which he enjoys - he began judging in 1999 and continues to this day, with assignments along the Mid North Coast in 2004.  We have been members of Kempsey Kat Klub since its inception in October 1990, holding the positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer over the years .. I am currently the Secretary and Show Secretary of the club and my husband is Treasurer.  These are both important positions - I was also President of the club for several years, resigning due to other things happening in my life, which precluded me continuing as club president.  However, I have been Show Secretary for the 15 years of the Klub's life ... and continue to hold this position.

Paul judging Silver Db Gd Ch CC Chester (brown tabby neuter)* at the CCCA National 2003 in Sydney (left) and at home (right) with his two boys, Nareira Fawnturian (fawn Somali baby boy) and Ballz, our blue point Balinese neuter, who sadly passed away suddenly recently.  RIP, little Ballz -you'll never be forgotten.

(* Sadly SDGC CC Chester - owned and loved by Yvonne Curran of Sydney - passed away recently.  Farewell, Chester, you were one magnificent cat ... Rest In Peace Big Beautiful Boy)

We breed Somalis in all 4 colours (tawny, cinnamon, blue and fawn) which is exciting as this breed is not common, but we also have our Abyssinians, who we will never be without in our lives.  :)  We are now sharing our lives with four other adorable Somali girls other than our "Glorious Little Blue Princess", GDGC Nareira Troi (blue), Maison Dor Sands of Egypt (tawny Aby variant) and DGC Uledo Bundle of Blue (blue Aby) - they are Nareira Eridani (fawn), Nareira Blackjack (tawny) and our own little girls, Paju Selket (tawny) and Db Gd Ch Paju Kilubaba (tawny Somali).  We've also been granted the great privilege of sharing our lives with an absolutely adorable fawn Somali male kitten - Nareira Fawnturian - who is the sweetest little man and is now officially "Daddy's Baby Boy".  He is spoilt rotten - enough said?  Our older stud boy is Ch Berwendale Balthazar (tawny Somali) - otherwise known as "Wolfy" - another gorgeous and adorable lad who loves people and is full of fun ... a typical trait of this adorable breed.  Besides these two "likely lads", we have just been joined by a beautiful fawn Abyssinian boy, Nareira Moon Shaker - who has been given the pet name of "Snugglebunny"!  That wasn't our idea ... we call him "Shaky" for short.  He will be a very valuable asset to our Somali and Abyssinian programme due to being a total outcross to our girls.  We also share our lives with the most adorable Somali spay in the world - Db Gd Ch Philtra Kehyler - who is so very much loved and spoilt ... she is distantly related to our darling Wally as well!  Kehyler came to us from Nareira Cattery - I have always loved this little girl and feel so lucky to now be able to share my life with her ... she's gorgeous - I'm biased.  :)  She's a furry goddess, sent to make us behave ourselves .... and she rules me with an iron paw in a velvet glove!

At the present time, Paju Kilubaba (aka Mad Maxine) has been supplanted in the "baby stakes" by a very naughty blue Somali kitten, Lollylegs, who is the daughter of GDGC Nareira Troi and SDGC Paju Bourbon St Beat ... sadly, her brother passed away earlier this year, something I am still sad about, but "Miss Lollylegs" will continue on this line.  She is officially "Paju Memphis Belle" - she's a very cheeky, naughty and lovable little Somali girl, prone to mischief, naturally!  I haven't got a clue why I called her Lollylegs - it just came out one day and stuck - but it suits her and she comes to it, so Lollylegs it is!

Our Balinese Venture will be interesting next season - we have introduced a lovely lilac point Balinese variant girl, Kelwa Brookong Tee-ah, to the family and our cream point boy, Bz Db Gd Ch Fretomau Bali Kuning, hopefully carries chocolate, which means in addition to seal, blue, cream, and the accompanying tortoiseshell points, we have the means to produce chocolate and lilac as well.  Another girl has also joined our family - a lovely seal point Balinese by the name of Fretomau Pandamonium, who is now thoroughly spoilt rotten and lives up to her name, creating havoc when she gets the "crazies" with the other feline members of the family.  "Panda", as we call her, has developed very nicely and is a credit to her breeders, Fred and Maureen Camarsh.  Not shown as yet, but hopefully later on in the year ... it is early days as yet.  More updates on our Balinese venture on their very own page .... our young blue point stud is now a Gold Db Gd Champion!!!  We are thrilled with this title as it is something we have been aiming for ... and he got his title last month!

We also have several "companions and household pets" as well - those who don't have pedigrees.  Silky is the boss-cat at 7 years old, followed by Puddles and our "monsters" (Wogmog, Ginger Snaps, the Feryl Sisters - Cheryl, Beryl and Meryl - and Moon Shadow) as well as Sabrina, the little ex-feral and grand-daughter (we think) of Old Fella, our late and much missed boy.  All of them are desexed, happy and much loved - in fact, Wogmog, Ginger Snaps, Feryl Cheryl and - finally!!! - Moon Shadow are champions in NSW CFA Inc.  We enjoy showing these cats ... they are just as loved as our pedigree cats, although they are of mixed parentage ... and we've had quite a bit of success with them since the "Companion & Household Pet" section was formed.  I'm glad it was :)

We have had a wonderful year with our Ginger Snaps (aka Snappy) this year and we have been informed that he is officially 3rd Cat of the Year (Neuter) in the NSWCFA Inc's Top 5 awards for Companions & Household Pets.  We are very, very proud of this wonderful achievement and now we are hoping he will continue to enjoy showing off at the shows and eventually make up his title of - GOLD DB GD CH CC.  He is at the top of the scratching post in the photo (below) and more photos can be found on our Domestics & Household Pets page ..... this boy has been described as a "larrikin of a cat" and these words are a very good description of this ginger lad!

Some of the Fur Kids - having fun on their new scratching pole .... 6 November, 2004.  Household Pets - Balinese - Somali.  BDGC CC Ginger Snaps is on top - he thinks he is Kingpin in this photo!  :D

Is it possible to have a different kind of "fluffy" in the household?  Well, yes it is ... we now have a little black kitten - actually he is not so little anymore - called "Chief".  Chief is, in actual fact, a beautiful black Persian (yeah, a PERSIAN CAT - y'know, one of those reeeeaaaaaaalllllllly fluffy ones!!!  :D :D) who is my feline shadow ... where I am, there he is!  He is a very sweet boy, of good Persian type, and was bred by Kazjon Cattery.  He came to us at Christmas 2004 and will be shown as a neuter as soon as possible.  Yes, we are true cat lovers - of all breeds and all kinds.  Thank you, Carol and John, for allowing such a loving little soul to enter, and enhance, our lives ... he's adorable.  :)

"The new kid on the block" - Kazjon Ohanzee, otherwise known as "Chief" - black Persian male kitten and a special little mate to all here.  At time of writing, he is on the table snoozing away - which is his very favourite pastime in the whole world, apart from eating and being played with etc etc.

THE FUTURE .....

As mentioned, our kitties shall hopefully fly the Paju flag again next year - we are also hoping to have more Balinese on the bench as well, but we will see what happens this year.   However, the future is the future .. we are hoping for good things for our fur-children and we are happy to enjoy their company first and foremost.  If they win at shows, well and good, but of course, we enjoy their company at home - the photo above of them playing with their new toy (a big scratching pole), shows just how they enjoy themselves :)  Of course, they always have human company as well - they think we're the "cat's pyjamas" for giving them this great present.  :))

IN ADDENDUM ....

This is a brand new and definitely updated website - I have been very lucky to have finally obtained a digital camera (something I thought I'd never get) so I've been busy learning how to take photos without film.  It's very daunting - I can't do things with digital photographs as I can with the SLR - but I am slowly getting there!  However, it is fun .. although I have had some terrible results with it.  But at least I can "capture" the feline family in action, in mischief and sleeping - all at the touch of a button.  I'm impressed :)  My elderly computer died a natural death (so to speak) as well - I'm now working on a "new" system which is bigger and faster .. however, I do have good memories of the "old girl" which did it's job so well for 6 years!

My old website contained many graphics which caused it to take forever to load .. I have now  decided not to include "The Babies' Page" and my "Memories Page" as they were rather large, graphics wise - I hope that this website will be much quicker to load and that it will be interesting.  I will be updating as things happen etc .... with a bit of luck, I shall have time to do that now.  However, I have continued with some of our favourite music on the site, perhaps it won't be to everyone's taste - but it is to ours!! :D

We wish to thank all of those wonderful people who started us off on this long road with our cats in the early 1980s (if you read this page, you'll know who you are) - I would like to also thank those who have trusted us with those kitties who live with us today and allow us to share their lives ... especially Mrs Debbie Thomas of Nareira Cattery (Gl Db Gd Ch Nareira Troi, Nareira Eridani, Nareira Blackjack, Nareira Fawnturian and Nareira Cleothera (sadly missed and never forgotten), plus Ch Nareira Samarian Sunset and Nareira Moon Shaker), Mrs Dale Hubbard of Berwendale Cattery in Victoria (Ch Berwendale Balthazar - also DGC Berwendale Ragdoll, Berwendale Shboul, GDGD Berwendale Devil Woman & Berwendale Ndogo Kaka (all sadly missed and never forgotten)), Mr Fred and Mrs Maureen Camarsh of Fretomau Cattery (Sv Db Gd Ch Fretomau Swiftly Blue, Bz Db Gd Ch Fretomau Bali Maryna, Gd Ch Fretomau Bekhshara, Bz Db Gd Ch Fretomau Bali Kuning, Fretomau Pandamonium (Fretomau Moonraker, Fretomau Bali Moonshadow, DGC Fretomau Yellarosa Texas, Fretomau Abi Wildfire - all sadly missed and never forgotten)), Ms Camille Dumas of Maison Dor Cattery in Queensland (Maison Dor Sands Of Egypt, Maison Dor Mystery of Egypt (sadly missed and never forgotten)) and Mr Norm and Mrs Lyn Varney of Norlyn Cattery, who have allowed us to share our lives with (now) Gl Db Gd Ch Baljava Sprinkles.  Also, Mrs Rosie Keogh (Kelwa Cattery) and Mrs Di Mulhall (Gillenbah Cattery) for their help in sending us the three lovely Bali "people" who now live with us .... Hildale Dylan, Brookong Kelwa Tee-ah and Baljava Bellissimo .... thank you all, one and all!

Please continue through the site and I hope that it will be entertaining and/or educational in the ways of our chosen breeds of feline (as seen by myself).  I have added a links page to the site and also photos - not as many as before as it took too long to load, but I hope that I've done a good job of promoting the Abyssinian, Somali and Balinese breed - not to mention the fact that desexed cats make beautiful pets .. our thoughts agree with the saying - "DESEX .. DON'T DESTROY!" - and every single feline who won't be used for breeding is desexed as soon as possible.  See our "Companions and Household Pets" page for our desexed furkids' stories .....

Thank you for visiting our site- if you would like any information about our breeds, or would just like to have a "cat chat", please click on Kitty to contact us.

To continue through our world and to meet our beloved Wally (GDGC & CCCA Ch Glordawn Wala), who passed away 26 November, 1998, please click on the "Wally's Page" button, below.  His tribute page is one which was hard to originally write up and even now, almost 7 years later, it is still sad, but heart warming to know how much Wally was loved - he is missed and always will be.  A warning - this is a two tissue box page ..... have some handy!  Also, please be patient as this page has some lovely photos of Wally as he was during his life with us, so it is "graphics heavy".
