Throwing and Racquet Sport Injuries

The repetitive high forces produced at the shoulder, elbow and wrist during throwing
and racquet sports can lead to injury of these joints. Examples of such injuries include
shoulder impingement, tennis elbow and repetitive strain injury of the wrist. These
injuries often become ongoing problems that affect the ability to participate in the sport.

What Hastings Physiotherapists can do
Hastings Physiotherapists can carry out an assessment to diagnose the cause of your pain. Once diagnosed, Hastings physiotherapists can decrease pain and swelling, mobilise joints to increase pain free movement, correct movement patterns, give advice regarding training, and design an exercise program to correct any muscle imbalances in the upper body and arm.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prevention is better than the cure
An assessment of your throwing technique, shoulder, elbow and wrist can be conducted in the absence of pain to identify any potential problems. An exercise program can be designed to address muscle imbalances and prevent throwing and racquet sport injuries.

Hasting's physiotherapists will be happy to confidentially discuss any of your concerns and design an individual program to assist you.
