This is a copy of the letter from The Macleay Argus on Friday January 9, 2004 that I wrote about Kempsey Hospital.

Government is misleading us about Hospital.
By Chris Richardson
Friday, January 9 2004

The State Government and The Mid-North Coast Area Health Service is misleading us about the level of service at Kempsey District Hospital.

Kempsey District Hospital is seriously under-resourced and yet The Mid-North Coast Area Health Service chief executive officer Terry Clout said the hospital was operating at level four standards (level one is the lowest level of service). How can Kempsey District Hospital be operating at level four standards when patients have to wait for more than two hours for treatment and have travel to Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and even further because of a lack of services in Kempsey?

There is no doubt services at Kempsey District Hospital need to be improved. Kempsey is a growing area and we deserve better services.

Oxley MP Andrew Stoner has worked very hard to try to get the Carr Government to upgrade our hospital and services, however the Carr Government is only interested in looking after the people who live in the big cities like Sydney and Newcastle, and not interested in looking after country communities.

The people of Kempsey can help by writing letters of support to Andrew Stoner, and by writing to the Premier and Health Minister, showing your concern.
